Special Coverage | In Loving Memory - Benefit Car Meet (Pt. II)

Continuing on with this special coverage, I want to give a shout out to our supporters JDM Sport for making this meet happen at their facility. It's more about people than the cars this company cares about, which is why they have a positive reputation in this community today. Once again, 'thank you' and make sure to check out their fanpage.

I left off by introducing Wright Wheels and a few show cars, so let's get back on track.

I was debating on going to this meet after SmartWax x Chemical Guys Open House last Saturday because of being less exposed to Euro cars and wanted to expand my viewing pleasures. Driving almost 5 hours every weekend is not so wallet friendly and because I'm currently driving with -8 camber in the rears, I have to think twice on where to go and do coverage. Fortunately, my site has photographers located in various areas in SoCal and I'm always grateful when they go out there to do a coverage for the site. I had no clue Nick went to this meet until one of my friend told me Nick was using his 'stance' pose to shoot the cars, so an early thanks to Nick!

But enough with my gratitude to our photographers (love you guys) and let's get to the event.
Last week, one of the biggest BMW forums, Mfest, organized their annual gathering meet with Oakley at Oakley headquarters located in Foothill Ranch, CA. I'm clueless on how this meet started, but from what I've heard from close friends, this is a must-to-attend meet for all Euro car owners.

Being in the automotive scene for a year now, I've been through situations that were positive and negative. From seeing people acting immaturely to witnessing fist fights at meets and events every moment became memorable. One of the most depressing news though is to hear a close friend or someone you don't really know of too well but seen a few times at local meets, passing away from an incident.
A close friend of Tracy's from team Low N Slow, Aleron Castro rested in peace about a month ago because of a medical problem that wasn't announced. I've personally met Aleron a week or so before this happened and couldn't believe the news. He was an automotive enthusiast and had the passion for cars like all of us.

What's really appreciative about this scene is to see people collaborating to help out a cause and that's what happened last week for the meet put together by Tracy and his teammates Low N Slow for Aleron and his family.

There's been a view meets going on at SmartWax/Chemical Guys HQ during this past few months and so far, every single one of them had a decent turnout. On Saturday was another open house by the company, so without any hesitation, I chose to attend this one and keep the other two meet/events, happening on the same time, to be covered by our other photographers. Fortunately, Nick attended the MFEST event and you'll be seeing a coverage on that pretty soon, but for today, I'll show you guys what happened at SmartWax/Chemical Guys Open House.

In my eyes, all cars have a soul. They all have certain quirks and defects that tell a story. If all cars could talk, I am sure they would have interesting stories to tell us - how they got their first dent, where they have been, what they've seen, and who has owned and driven them. As gear-heads we all love what we drive in some way, we all have that passion that connects us to our inanimate objects with wheels.

Event Coverage | Scottish Modified 2011

Night-Import: Photography by Rich McKee | Words by William Lee

Our photographer Rich McKee participated in what seemed to be like a tiring event, but one heck of an experience, Scottish Modified. This is not an ordinary car show where you take your car, park, clean it, and wait for award announcements. Starting from Hull, UK to Edinburgh, Scotland, this event consists of a 650 mile cruise! plus other small side activities.
It's really not comparable to ModBall Rally which people call the 'craziest rally of 3,000 miles, 6 days, 5 countries', but still very impressive driving non-stop. According to Rich, they left on a Saturday, met up with another crew at a service center, and continued on to Edinburgh, Scotland. Even crazier, these guys partied till 5am and drove back home at 9am. Gotta give props to Rich and his crew Fast-N-Modded!

There are basically two things I look at when it comes to our Random Spotlight features; Simplicity and Execution. A few weeks ago, our photographer, also a staff from Fast-N-Modded, attended a 650 mile cruise event called Scottish Modified. While looking through his photos to write up an Event Coverage, I came across a car I instantly fell in love with but had a difficult time trying to identify the make and model. If you are still clueless, let's not waste time and get to the point. Here's our feature on a Fiat Grande Punto.

Special Coverage | Cars & Coffee by BP VIP

If you live in Southern California, crew BP VIP should sound familiar. I've known these guys for quite a long time now and featured two of their members ride previously; Norman's Previa and Carl's Lexus IS.
What is this crew all about? Its team name pretty much says it all.
BP VIP = BP "Bippu Pride" VIP (good times + good people + sweet rides).
Last week, BP VIP hosted their own Cars & Coffee at Buena Park and our photographer Nick Schultz was able to attend the meet for a coverage.

Last week at Fontana Nissan Meet, I came across a few Skyline R32s parked in front of the registration booth, but there was one that caught my attention along with 2 Red Tracked cars. First of all, you will rarely come across tracked R32s here in Southern California and even rarer, a female driver in the track scene.
Let me introduce you to Kerryann De La Cruz and her Red R32.

Special Coverage | Pro-Motion Grand Opening / Motion Auto Show Mini Meet

Pro-Motion Meet-36
How's it going Night-Import fans~! Ok, I just ate too much Ice Cream in the morning so I'm a bit hyped up right now, but there's nothing wrong with writing up a coverage in this mood right?
I was actually in an opposite mood yesterday, but it got better once I arrived to Pro-Motion's Grand Opening / Motion Auto Show Mini-Meet. Most of us know that Pro-Motion Distributing is the largest distributors here in Southern California since 1989 and they have a long-time history with their past show called SpoCom; however, this year was a turn around for the company and now, they launched a new show with a new venue called Motion Auto Show.
This mini-meet was organized to introduce automotive enthusiasts to Pro-Motion Distributing and for early registration into Motion Auto Show, so if you showed up yesterday, you got one heck of a deal!

I'm sure most of you guys have been waiting for Part 2 to come up. Why? Because as mentioned in Part 1, Part 2 was going to be a surprise, but for those who've been to Extreme Autofest would have guessed it had to be related to models...and.. you're right!
There are tons of activities and side events happening at EAF, but you'll be seeing a crowd at the models booth as if the cars weren't important at all.
To start the hotness off, we got our supporting models Eva Skye and Raichelle Viado!
I also spot Leo from Kuya Protection at the back. When it comes to guarding models or just anything related to protection, hit up Kuya Protection!

It's here once again! One of the biggest car shows in San Diego, Extreme Autofest, brought together tons of rides from Lowriders to Imports, overcrowding Qualcomm Stadium like every year. This event is more than a car show, but includes special guest appearances, Gymkhana, and the most attractable and well-known part of Extreme Autofest, Models.
Our photographer Jay Peña was able to make it out with the help of JDM Sport and Elite-Autosports while I was busy covering Fontana Nissan Meet. According to Jay, there weren't as many Imports as expected, but the turnout was unbelievably mind bottling. Part 1 will be covering the car show area and Part 2 will be a surprise~!

FNM-1
The hot summer weather is continuing in Southern California and car events/meets are still happening every week! There were two events happening on the same day and time, but our photographer Jay Peña was able to cover the other event, which will be posted tomorrow or Wednesday.
While Jay was doing his thing, I attended a meet introduced by a few friends of mine, happening at Fontana Nissan dealership. Most of the events/meets I attended at a dealership did not have a good turnout and the cars that participate are usually the ones I've seen at least once; however, this meet was far better and I would say one of the best meets I've ever attended because it was more of quality than quantity.

Powerhouse Amuse full body kit 370Z
Amongst the Z crowd, one model you rarely see being modified to its full potential or unique is a 370Z. During my visit to Fontana Nissan Meet today, I spotted this Red 370Z parked behind of another Z, which many didn’t realize. What caught my attention was the authentic full Powerhouse Amuse body kit and Volk TE37SLs.

Event Coverage | MOD (Mitsubishi Owners Day) 2011

July 9, 2011

Night-Import: Photography and Words by William Lee | Covered with Hooni

MOD-51
Every year, there will be an event for a certain car brand, such as SevenStock and Nismolism, and today was the day for Mistubishi owners, called MOD 2011. Usually, more than 300 cars appear to show, which makes these kind of events a must-to-attend. Having good experiences with other events that were car brand specific, I was pretty excited to finally step out of my house for an event after the long dead weekend last week. Our special staff Hooni was my companion for today's coverage.

Holden Commodore (21)
We want to bring you guys a car that's definitely worth an exposure and sure enough, we're bringing you one today. Once in awhile, we will go over our boundaries and feature something that's never been or 'thought of to be featured', on our site. What do I mean?
Well check out this 2008 Pontiac G8 GT, converted into a Holden Commodore SS-V.
Although we have the term 'Import' in our site's name, we are opened to any model/brand and even more opened to cars that were built to surprise the automotive community.
Tony Husted's Pontiac is one of those rides that will overwhelm you today and you'll see why in a few seconds.

Anime Expo Pt.2--1
This was my first time ever going to Anime Expo and for some reason, I enjoyed every single minute of it, which is why I decided to continue on with the event coverage. Today was actually the 4th and last day of Anime Expo, so I headed down there and met up with a good friend of mine, David Izrailov, to focus on some parts of the event we couldn't cover yesterday. I was expecting a less crowded day, but surprisingly, it was as packed as yesterday, but we managed to walk around the exhibition hall and cosplay area taking shots here and there.

Long weekends in California usually means the week goes by without any events. Most of you guys know tomorrow is Independence Day, so it's a time to relax and 'appreciate'. Luckily, Anime Expo was going on, so my eagerness to shoot happened at Anime Expo throughout this week. Today's coverage will continue on from yesterday's, and I'll probably post up a few more continuous parts if I feel like it.
Starting off Part 2 with one of Toyota booths model dressed up as Hatsune Miku.

Japan cars are one of the categories on our site that we love to feature and show to the automotive enthusiasts. Without any doubt, we can say cars were probably one of the most influential part of Japanese culture shared to the world, but there are much more 'traditions' still being shared and now, some being very popular, one of them being Animation, aka Anime.
I remember back in the days when I lived in Korea, spending numerous days at a local Manga Cafe. Reading Manga was probably one of my favorite hobbies after sports because of funny but sometimes depressing story lines and drawings. After coming back to the states, I got into more Anime, starting with Naruto and gradually reading/watching other shows as well.
What I did and still do is still popular, not only in Japan, but in many other countries, especially in North America, which is why since 1994, Los Angeles Convention Center started to run the biggest Anime show called Anime Expo. You'll be seeing tons of people doing cosplay, famous artists having conerts, and top Anime companies promoting their work.

For a change, I wanted to share something new and fresh to you guys instead of just cars. Don't get me wrong, our site is for automotives, but a true JDM fan will love almost everything that happens in Japan, such as Anime! Up to you if you want to check this coverage out, but it will be fun and awkward at the same time. Let's get it rolling~!
